Bollywood has been a consistent form of entertainment for my family. Granted, when I was younger I used to HATE watching Indian Movies. If I wanted to watch Dukes of Hazzard or Knight Rider I couldn't...cause it seemed mom always had one of those desi movies in (which happened to have the same storyline and same ending). Somewhere along the way I started watching the movies and actually took a liking to them. Not only did I want to be the Hulk, but I wanted to be Amitabh Bachan too fighting an alligator! There was something about the adrenaline pumping in their "fake fights" and "Dishoom" that we've become accustomed to listening to that really got to me.
My all-time favorite actor happens to be Amitabh Bachan, but I like watching movies with Sharukh Khan. Put any combination of Govinda, Khadar Khan, Johnny Lever, Sanjay Dutt, or Paresh Rawal in there and I'll watch knowing I'll laugh my head off at some point during the movie. As far as the actresses go, I think it depends on the movie, the story, and her individual performance. When I think about an actress who's majority of films I've watched and liked, Aishwariya Rai comes to mind...no I'm not gonna put up pictures of her...you can go to some other site for that. Instead, I'm gonna list some movies I enjoyed in the past.
Favorite Amitabh Movies
Sholay, 1975 Amar Akbar Anthony, 1977 Don, 1978 Do Aur Do Panch, 1980 Shaan, 1980 Lawaaris, 1981 Naseeb, 1981 Yarana, 1982 Namak Halal, 1982 Sharaabi, 1984 Mard, 1985 Shahenshah, 1987 Jadugar, 1989 Toofan, 1989 Agneepath, 1990 Ajooba, 1991 Hum, 1991 Khuda Gawah, 1992 Major Saab, 1998 Bade Miya Chhote Miya, 1998 Mohabbatein, 2000 Ek Rishtaa, 2001 Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, 2001 Aankhen, 2002 Him Kisi Se Kum Nahin, 2002 Kaante, 2002 Baghban, 2003
I watched a lot of movies in between 2000 and 2002 just because it seemed that every day someone went and picked a new movie up. I've noticed the quality of the films going down and this directly correlates to the number of movies I've actually watched. Here are my favorite movies over the last few years.
2004
Mein Houn Na, Hum Tum, and Veer-Zaara
2003
Kal Ho Na Ho, Koy Milgaya, Munna Bhai MBBS, and Baaghban
2002
Humraz Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi hai, Raaz, Aankhen, Hum Kisise Kum Nahin,
Devdas, and Kabi Khushi Kabi Ghum
2001
One Two Ka Four
2000 Josh, Yaadein, Har Dil Jo Pyar Karega, and Phri Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani
Here are some others I really enjoyed. Taal, Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge 1995, Kuch Kuck Hota Hai 1998, Pardes 1997, Yes Boss 1997, Koyla 1997, Trimurti 1995, Deewana 1992, Dadhkhan, Hum Aapke Hain Koun, and Hera Pheri...and of course all of the Amitabh Bachan movies I've seen over the years.
Even when I started watching movies I used to hate the songs! I hated them with a passion! I saw it as being inefficient to sit through the songs rather than fast-forwarding through them...so we just skipped the songs, cutting a 3 hour movie down to 2 and 1/2 hours. But again, somewhere along the way I began to appreciate the voices of Lata Mangeshkar, Kishore Kumar, Kumar Sanu, and of course the late great, Mohammed Rafi. These days I enjoy listening to Lucky Ali, Sonu Nigam (who I've seen in concert, believe it or not), and Udit Narayan.
